Victory Egg

Like its predecessor, Hope Day, Victory Egg (apparently originally titled ‘Victory’ on the LP version of A Little Man…) is most likely about the First World War, a recurring feature in Cardiacs lyrics (with the 12″ cover of Baby Heart Dirt even featuring a photo of WW1 soldiers). The lines about ‘World’ having her “egg burst” (presumably the ‘egg’ in the title) are interesting- perhaps a reference to the beginning of a war (the world bursting into action).

Musically, it’s hummable, standard ’80s Cardiacs fare. The only really disappointing thing about Victory Egg is its short length- it feels over far too soon.

Victory Egg was included on the Greatest Hits compilation CD.
